Us Brits’ love affair with online shopping is set to continue despite the economic gloom.
The UK’s ecommerce market is the largest and most mature in Europe, according to a new report by Forrester Research, which says more than half of Brits shop online today – some 28 million people. By 2014, the analyst expects the figure to be 37 million individuals, spending close to £56bn annually.
The report predicts UK ecommerce will grow “a healthy” six per cent per year over the next six years. According to Forrester, Brits spend more cash on the web than Europeans or Americans, with UK consumers having an estimated annual e-spend of £1,312 each.
Books, DVDs and leisure travel are the most common online purchases in the UK, the report reveals.
